Never Waivered in Our Commitment

For over half a century we’ve been a part of Flint and the surrounding communities. Through the good times — and not so good — Dort Federal Credit Union has never wavered in our commitment to our hometown. We’ve been tending to our members’ needs for more than 60 years with what we call a heritage of helping.

In 2015 our new Administrative Building was well underway for an early 2016 completion. Our new office houses our administrative departments along with our call center, lending, collection, mortgage and commercial lending groups.

Although entrenched in a major construction project, Dort Federal Credit Union began exploring opportunities after the news Perani Arena had been sold and an OHL team was coming to Flint. With careful research and diligent negotiations, Dort Federal Credit Union and IMS Hockey Management LLC reached an agreement for the naming rights of the facility, now known as Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center.

With this new opportunity for further credit union advertising, we look forward to our community having a greater variety of sporting events and entertainment options. Our goal is to see the Dort Event Center attract spectators and fans, event attendees, and families to Flint’s East side. dkidd

Community reinvestment is a significant part of our role as a credit union. From large, forward facing investments like the Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center to giving generously to local organizations like the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, Whaley Children’s Center, and Genesee County Humane Society (just to name a few), we’re supporting programs and organizations that improve the quality of life across our charter area. In fact, in 2015, the Dort Federal Credit Union Board of Directors launched our institution’s first-ever scholarship program for our members. Through an application process, the Board of Directors awarded four $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors/enrolled college students. The Board of Directors looks forward to continuing the scholarship program in the years ahead.

In addition to reinvesting in our community, we also believe we have a fundamental responsibility to our membership to be creative problem solvers—to meet members where they are financially and give them the tools to get them where they want to be. Our team continually looks for ways to help our members improve their financial health. Over the years, we’ve watched a staggering number of our members struggle to find affordable car insurance on a moderately priced vehicle. It’s typical for some members to pay monthly insurance bills equal to, or greater than, their monthly auto loan payment. We think that’s unacceptable. To help our members drive a reliable used vehicle, Dort Federal Credit Union created an option, giving qualified members the opportunity to have Personal Liability and Property Damage coverage (PL/PD) on auto loans less
than $10,500. To date, this program has helped more than 400 members.

Our Dort Federal team is always looking for new ways to make saving and borrowing easier. To that end, we implemented a completely remote, online lending process that allows qualified members to apply for and close a loan from anywhere with internet connectivity.

We’ve also revised our online banking platform to give members with multiple memberships the ease of logging in with a single username and password. We’ve also watched the steady adoption of our Mobile Deposit in-app feature, giving qualified members the opportunity to deposit checks through our online banking mobile app. Clean, easy to use, and comprehensive—that’s what we strive for when delivering new services and delivery channels.

Dort Federal Credit Union—your credit union, is continually changing. We’re progressing, evolving, and helping our community do the same. We are proud to call Genesee County home, and we’re actively looking for ways to grow.

Thank you for allowing us the privilege to serve you.
We look forward to many more years as your trusted financial partner.
